All Brookes smoke alarms have a maximum service life of 10 years, after which they need to be replaced.

When smoke alarms are interconnected in your home, this means that they communicate with each other in the case of a fire. If one smoke alarm activates, the rest of the interconnected smoke alarms in the home also go off, helping to alert all the people within the home.

Mains powered smoke alarms are hard wired to be permanently connected to the mains power supply and can only be done by a licenced electrician. Battery powered smoke alarms are to only be used when there is no connection to the main power (perhaps due to a hidden space) or unable to run the wiring (such as a concrete ceiling).
